Our Story

Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

dave-standing-close.jpg

Over 25 years ago, Founder and President of Tinnacity, Dave Tinnerman started his passion of software development and material handling when he started working with Crown Equipment Corporation.  During his tenure at Crown, Dave established a respected rapport with independent material handling dealerships. Dave quickly recognized the material handling  providers/dealers did not have the time, knowledge, or access to the same resources as factory owned stores. After 16 years with Crown and recognizing an industry need, Dave launched Tinnacity to aid independent service companies and to provide the same capabilities that were not readily available to them.

Tinnacity, located in Columbus, OH,  was initiated with the motto "Do Whatever It Takes" and a "Can Do" attitude. Tinnacity became an available resource for consultation and custom software development for the smaller-medium sized equipment service providers.   After 2 years, Dave recognized a serious need...Service. "The amount of paper that was being pushed, individual touches made, data inaccuracies, and just the simple the cost of labor to maintain service work orders was just unbelievable", says Dave. In 2017, Dave shifted the business model of Tinnacity from strictly a consulting company to a "Software As A Service" solutions provider that would build software products and solutions specific for the material handling and industrial equipment industry.

Dave indicated, "Our first area of concern was Service. There were other available solutions, but none in the market that addressed the needs of this industry and specifically the smaller-medium sized providers. The products available in the market were not designed with this industry and client size in mind. Our clients were trying to go mobile and to the cloud, but the solutions never quite fit, the products were expensive, or the product was too hard to maintain. It became a whirlwind of mass confusion and another disappointment of a failed project for the service providers/dealers." .  In 2018, Tinnacity introduced Service IT, the first field service mobile solution for the industry independent of any manufacturer OEM and back office software.

Tinnacity spent 2 years designing, developing, and testing its mobile service solution along side equipment service providers to ensure the solution was robust and met the needs of the industry. "Our products are built by you for you! We build our products so that anyone servicing equipment can use it. Whether you have 1 or 2 technicians or hundreds, you can be mobile and streamline your business.", Dave pointed out. Today, Tinnacity has partnered (He refers to his clients as partners) with equipment service providers and dealers all over the country with its mobile service solution. Tinnacity partners/clients are seeing an average ROI under a year while increasing their service revenue during the same time period.

To date, Tinnacity continues to innovate and grow! Dave and his staff are continuously providing new features and capabilities to its Service IT solution, but in addition are now addressing other gaps in the industry. "We work along side our clients to address their needs and wants.", stated Dave.  In fall of 2019, Tinnacity released Scan IT,  a QR scanning technology that easily identifies equipment information with a simple scan of their client's mobile device. Along side,  Manage IT a customer app was released and made available to our client's end customers. Service providers no longer have to build a custom app for their customers. Their customers now have an app that allows them to quickly scan, request service, quotes, rentals and much more.

"We just don't build products to build them. We build solutions to address the needs in the material handling industry and to provide a helping hand to those that may not have resources at their fingertips to solve.  If we help make our clients successful, then we will be successful. We are more than an app....we are a solution!", emphasized Dave.

Hi, I'm Brett, partner and CTO (Chief Technology Officer) at Tinnacity. Since graduating from The Ohio State University in Computer & Information Science, I've worked developing software and technology solutions in the material handling and service industries.

My wife, 2 boys, and I live near Jacksonville, Florida where we love spending time outside at the beach and waterparks with our family and friends. We are avid travelers, having visited and lived overseas many times (our youngest son was born in New Zealand). My wife and I have also visited  over 50 bourbon and whiskey distilleries in multiple countries.

With Tinnacity, my passion is to help solve customers' problems through innovative solutions and rapid development. Learning, iterating, and evolving are a large part of who I am and they flow through to Tinnacity's products and services.

Hello, my name is Tina Gelhaus and I am a customer experience managers at Tinnacity.  Before joining Tinnacity I worked at Crown Equipment for 22 years, where I found my passion for training and onboarding customers.  I value my role when I help turn first time guests into loyal customers.

I live in St. Henry, Ohio  I have two daughters who are grown and enjoying life. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, doing DIY projects with my Cricut and making memorable videos for people’s special occasions. The first video I created was for my parents’ anniversary.  I was in the eighth grade at the time, we did not have a computer back then. The only way I knew how was to tape individual pictures to the wall and using my dad’s big and bulky video camera I recorded each image for five seconds, pausing between each image to give it a ‘fade’ transition between the pictures. After recording hundreds of pictures, I had to figure out how to get music added to the slideshow.  I had to ponder on that for a bit.  I figured it out, using a cassette player and an RGA cable I connected the cassette player to the video camera and recorded songs to the slideshow.  Needless to say, it took forever but my parents loved it….it turned out pretty good for a rookie. Looking back, I think that is when I started having a passion for technology.

Hello, my name is Brad Cotterman.  I'm the director of operations at Tinnacity.  Before joining Tinnacity I worked at Crown Equipment, where I helped lead new product development efforts for connected products.  Before working at Crown, I was a software engineer at the Hartzell Industries. I live in Sidney, Ohio with my wife, 3 kids and a dog.  My kids are active in all kinds of activities.  I enjoy coaching various sports (Soccer, Basketball, Baseball and Fastpitch).  I get real pleasure out of seeing kids reach potential, by getting their first hit on a baseball field or scoring their first basket in a basketball game.  I'm a continuous learner.  I have a Bachelor's degree from DeVry University in Computer Information Systems, a Masters certificate from the University of Dayton, and I expect to graduate in the summer of 2023 from Franklin University with a Masters degree in Data Analytics.  I love learning about new and emerging technologies, and understanding how they can fit into products to make our customers' lives better.

My name is Michael Simon and I'm an Account Manager for Tinnacity. Before joining Tinnacity in 2020, I attended Ohio Dominican University where I played basketball and studied Early Childhood Education.

I live in Hilliard, Ohio with my girlfriend (who I met at ODU) and together we have a Golden Retriever named Mater. When I’m not working, I enjoy golfing, boating, watching NASCAR, and cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes!

I studied to be a teacher because I enjoyed explaining material to students and watching the “lightbulb go off” when they began to understand. Whether I am showing a demo or leading a training, I get satisfaction and take pride in introducing Tinnacity’s solution to a new group of people and watching their "lightbulb go off"!

My name is Christian. I was born and raised in Northwest Ohio. (GO BUCKEYES!) I worked as a manager in the retail industry for 9 years. I then switched industries and for 10 years I worked on the railroads as a Field Manager and then as a Superintendent. Within those 10 years I lived and worked in 7 states-Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Minnesota, Texas, Indiana and Georgia where I got to see amazing parts of the country and meet all sorts of people.

While working in the rail industry, I developed a passion for teaching, guiding and helping others. I found personal and professional fulfillment when I would see folks catch on and utilize the training I provided. It’s a passion that has brought me to the Tinnacity Team as a Customer Experience Manager.

I enjoy kayaking, Dad Jokes and clever quotes.

Our Customers

Existing customers matter more than new customers. If we don't take care of our existing customers, we don't deserve new customers. When you become part of the family, you can trust that we're in it with you for the long haul.
